Friday Update - 1.07.22

1 July 2022 (by stjohnb)

Dear Parents and Carers

This week has seen our children testing their brains as well as their brawn.  As well as being our assessment week it is also been National Sports Week.  Our sports started the previous Friday when our girls cricket team took part in the girl’s tournament at the Northern Club.  We were delighted when they managed to get through to the final and were beaten by Merchant Taylors Girls.  This is another example of how much we value sports and the importance that boys and girls receive equal access to this important part of the school curriculum.  National Sports Week saw us arrange multi sports for our infants and rounders competitions for our other classes.  We joined up with our year groups from Green Park School and the children competed together in mixed teams.  It was most encouraging to see the boys and girls from both schools playing together and clearly enjoying themselves.  Our children’s behaviour was exemplary and once again was commented upon by staff members.  It was also refreshing that there was not a football in sight.

Monday - Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Mersey Ferries in Liverpool and Miss Rogers simply said to me this class is fantastic, I could take them anywhere.  Well done Year 4.

At the end of the day our Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby team took part in a competition held at Maricourt High School and although the attendance was disappointing they certainly enjoyed the event and played well.

Tuesday – the sporting element continued as a team of 10 Year 5 and 10 Year 6 pupils took part in the Athletics Quad Kids Event held at Litherland Sports Park.  We were extremely proud of their efforts and thrilled that the boys and girls in Year 6 were outright winners.

It was unfortunate that we had to cancel our New Parents Evening Meeting on Wednesday due to staff illness.  We shall of course aim to arrange a new date as soon as possible.

Continuing with our sporting theme we look forward to our final three competitions next week when our Athletics teams from Year 3 and Year 4 will travel to Litherland Sports Park on Tuesday afternoon and we appropriately round off the season with the Maghull Schools Cricket Tournament which will take place on Wednesday afternoon.

Sports Day will take place on Monday weather permitting – Infants 10.00am - Juniors 1.30pm – Round Meade Gates will be open.  Should the weather be poor, sports day will move to Thursday 7th July.

Can I remind everyone that our first Summer Fair in two years, which will be a gentle affair, but nevertheless, great to see everyone enjoying themselves will take place next Friday 8th July.  Children are allowed to attend school in their own clothes with a donation of £1.00 which will go towards floats.  Any donations for the Friends of St John Bosco will be gratefully received and indeed if you are able to help please email school and I will forward it on to them.

Following our most recent governing board meeting I am able to inform you of our teaching structure for the new school year.

Year 1 – Mrs Bromilow/ Mrs Clark

Year 2 – Mrs Meehan/Mrs Stockwell

Yours sincerely
