Friday Update 07.05.21

7 May 2021 (by stjohnb)

Dear Parents and Carers

Another enjoyable week has been had by all and although it has been a shorter week the teachers have certainly managed to cram in a great deal of learning for your children.  Although the weather has been particularly changeable we have managed to enjoy our PE activities and the Year 4 class are really working hard at developing their swimming skills.

We were all delighted that our girl’s football team in Year 6 were able to play their first match last Friday.  Thank you for the sensible way that you spectated and it was most exciting with the girls eventually winning the game 3:1.  As you can imagine they were all delighted.  Next Friday will be their second match again at home and this time all the girls from Year 5 and 6 who attend their school club will take part.

After school we shall be taking our boys to play against the children at Summer Hill Primary and I hope we manage to dodge the rain.  Again we have included as many of our boys as we can and I know that they are all supportive of each other and understand what I am trying to do, regardless of their ability.

The children thoroughly enjoyed their NSPCC Number Day and the teachers focused some of their time on this important generic aspect of mathematics.  Many thanks for your generous donations and if you wanted to contribute via Iris Parentmail, please email Mrs Greenwood with the amount of contribution to raise an invoice.  As more and more banks close, in a drive to move to a cashless system schools are no exception and we shall also be using these payment methods far more in the future.

I have been asked to thank you on behalf of the Archdiocese for your school levy payment which contributes towards the maintenance of your children’s school.  If you have yet to make this payment please do so at your earliest convenience, payments listed on Iris Parentmail under your oldest child’s name.

Can I thank you all for the way that you continue to bring your children to school and take them home.  Although there are undoubtedly many vehicles at these times we seem to be managing quite well and as the Covid rates continue to fall we remain hopeful that the next removal of restrictions will allow us to return to a more normal school regime where children’s restrictions can be safely removed.

As we are hopefully enjoying more sustained fine weather please check that your children’s items of clothing are clearly labelled especially jumpers, cardigans and hoodies that the children regularly remove particularly during lunchtimes.

I hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable weekend and ask that you continue to keep Mrs Bromilow and Mrs Forrester in your thoughts.  I am delighted to be able to welcome back Mrs Bromilow back to our Year 1 class on Monday and so pleased to be able to inform you that Mrs Forrester has been discharged from hospital and I have been to visit her with the beautiful bouquet of flowers along with your heartfelt thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and return to the place where she loves to work.

Yours sincerely

Mr D MacAreavy - Headteacher
